Curriculum: Foundation
In conjunction with the closely supervised, intensive field instruction component and the classroom work you do in your selected concentration, the core curriculum of the School provides a broad professional foundation for a career in social work. The professional foundation curriculum requires you to understand—and incorporate in your work—the intricacies associated with the following areas: values and ethics, diversity, promotion of social and economic justice, populations at risk, human behavior and the social environment, social welfare policy and services, social work practice, research, and field practicum.
Foundation year field experiences are designed to provide you with a generalist perspective of social work practice. In addition to your method concentration, you will have field assignments with either an individual, group or family, and with a large social system, such as an organization or community. There is increased focus on your advanced concentration in the second semester.
